India U-18 Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams Set for Asia Cup 2026 Campaign in Japan

India’s U-18 men’s and women’s hockey teams are set to compete in the Asia Cup 2026 in Kakamigahara, Japan, from May 29 to June 6. Both squads, led by Ketan Kushwaha and Sweety Kujur, enter after intensive Bhopal camps and Australia exposure tours, aiming for strong performances in their respective pools and a place in the semi-finals.

The Indian U-18 men’s and women’s hockey teams are poised to begin their respective campaigns at the U-18 Asia Cup 2026 in Kakamigahara, Japan, scheduled from May 29 to June 6, as both squads aim to establish a strong presence against Asia’s emerging hockey powerhouses.

The men’s team, captained by forward Ketan Kushwaha, enters the tournament after an intensive month-long national coaching camp held at the Udhav Das Mehta (Bhai Ji) Central Centre of the Sports Authority of India in Bhopal. The squad trained under coaches Sardar Singh and Rajnish Mishra, focusing on tactical discipline and team cohesion. As part of their preparations, the side played a four-match series against the visiting Australian U-18 team, recording one victory, one defeat, and two draws, reflecting a balanced competitive exposure ahead of the continental challenge.

India has been placed in Pool A of the men’s competition alongside hosts Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Kazakhstan. The team will open its campaign against Kazakhstan on May 29, followed by matches against Japan on May 31, Korea on June 1, and Chinese Taipei on June 3. Pool B consists of Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for June 5, while the final will be played on June 6.

Ahead of the opening match, captain Ketan Kushwaha expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation, stating that the Bhopal camp and matches against Australia significantly improved team coordination and highlighted areas requiring refinement. He added that the team is motivated to deliver strong performances and represent the country with pride.

The Indian U-18 women’s team, led by captain Sweety Kujur, also arrives at the tournament following a structured national camp in Bhopal under coach Rani. The training program emphasized tactical awareness, combination play, and physical conditioning. The women’s side also competed in a four-match series against Australia, concluding the series with a morale-boosting victory that strengthened their confidence ahead of the Asia Cup.

Placed in Pool A, the women’s team will begin its campaign against Malaysia on May 30, followed by matches against Korea on May 31 and Singapore on June 2. Pool B features China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Bangladesh. The top two teams from each pool will progress to the semi-finals on June 5, with the final scheduled for June 6.
